Bye for a bit

To be quite honest, I never really understood why bloggers thought it was necessary to announce they were taking a break. Why they had to make it so official and why they couldn't just post whenever they wanted was beyond me. I think I get what the dramatic announcements are all about now. My guess is it's a way to officially let yourself off the hook, set yourself free and eliminate the feeling of pressure when it's been a while since your last post.

Even though I haven't been posting nearly as much as I want to, I'm always thinking about it. Always thinking of new content, considering my next post and getting down on myself when I choose to do something else over blogging. Feeling bad that I haven't developed a new recipe in a while and guilty when my weekly meal plans are boring and uninspired.

The truth though, is that I love blogging! I love what I've created with this little space and how it's changed and developed over time. I'm overwhelmed though, and something's got to give. Time to reset! Life lately has been a lot.  It's as if I'm spreading myself too thin and not applying myself 100% where it matters most. When I can't juggle everything at once, it feels like I'm letting myself down. Maybe it's also just a case of "working mother's guilt", but Mamma needs a break and this is one area that I can easily walk away from for a bit.

A while back, a friend of mine posted this excerpt on Facebook (which I'm assuming she got from here):

"The women I walk with feel so much pressure to be everything, all at the same time. I feel it, too. What I mean is we feel like we need to be capable and beautiful, well-read and well-worked-out, with perfectly designed homes and meaningful spiritual practices. We have to be social and creative, ever present with our kids and intimately connected with our husbands, active in our communities and articulate about world events.

But to do all that would take ten women. And we’re not all made that way. Some of us are made to be dreamers, and what that means is that we forget the details sometimes. Some of us are made to create beautiful homes, but it means we don’t read every big new book that comes out. Some of us love to run, but can’t cook to save our lives. And that’s how it is to be a person—human and wonderful and limited, frankly."

For some reason this stuck with me. This is SO something I can identify with, as I'm sure many other women can as well. I took a screen shot when it was posted and I look back at it quite often when I need to remind myself it's okay and often necessary to take a step back and just be present.
So while I'm out in the real world taking a break and practicing the art of being present, I'll certainly miss this place! The hope is to return with a fresh new perspective sooner rather than later. In the meantime, make sure you're following me on Instagram! Bye-bye for a bit Blogland!

What's cooking this week?

You know the drill! Here we are again, yet another Sunday...which means time to plan out the meals for the week. I'm still in healthy mode, however I've ditched the excel sheet to pre-plan. I'm confident that I've got enough of a grasp on what I should and shouldn't be eating that I can handle it. The real challenge is portioning it out correctly when it's in front of my face! Let's see if I can control myself with all of this...
Tonight: Baked ziti for Hubs and salad for me
Monday: Leftover 21 Day Fix Zuppa Toscana (It was SOOOOO good even though I left out the turkey bacon)
Tuesday:  21 Day Fix Chicken Enchilada Soup
Wednesday: Philly Stuffed Peppers
Thursday: Leftovers! Baked Ziti for Hubs and 21 Day Fix Enchilada Soup for me
Friday: Subway - I've been craving a veggie sub!

There isn't too much action to report on over here. Yesterday Ella and I went to story time at Barnes and Noble. It was a fun little outing. Ella had a great time and I had an even better time watching her! Being that we live in a retirement community, I have to take advantage of kid's activities when they come along. Apparently for now there will be a story time every Saturday so maybe that could be our thing!
Stephen had fire training all day as part of a leadership training he is doing through work. Okay so perhaps the weekend has been action packed for some of us...
Today is just a typical day in our home and there's nothing wrong with that. Things are really picking up at work as we prepare for state testing. You would not even believe what goes on behind the scenes in order to prepare for that whole situation. Resting up for another busy week is what I'll be doing. I hope you all have a good one!

Uncle Peter's Biggest/Littlest Fan

Last weekend I was able to capture a quick video of my peanut dancing to my brother's band The Vigilance Committee. She cracks me up with these moves! That little booty is always wiggling as soon as she hears music, especially TVC! I just had to share! Happy Tuesday!  Signature photo 1807776276395000151013_zps29b0d7fd.png

What's cooking this week?

What a week! The training in Daytona Beach was great, but man did I miss my two favorites!? It was so nice to get home to them Thursday night.
It's amazing how thrown off my routine got just from being away for 2 days! I'm still recovering. This weekend has been a busy one too! I'll tell you about it, but first let's talk about...

Tonight: We had Pasta Aglio E Olio with Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Broccoli
Monday: 21 Day Fix Turkey Chili - leftovers frozen
Tuesday:  Chicken Fajitas
Wednesday21 Day Fix Zuppa Toscana and steak for Hubs
Thursday: Hubs - Brats and pierogies (I'll have leftover fajitas)
Friday: Hubs - BLT's (I'll have leftover soup)

I'm starting another 21 day challenge tomorrow, I'll unofficially be following the 21 Day Fix program. What does that mean? I have no idea. I keep saying I'm done but my brain is now trained to think in terms of portioned containers and I can't quite let it go. For the next 21 days I'll be exercising daily and eating healthy...let's just go with that. If you didn't get a chance to read how my first round went, you can check out that post HERE

Back to this weekend. This morning we met up with friends in Disney and went to the character breakfast at the Crystal Palace. First we met Mickey! Ella hasn't met any characters yet even though we've been to Disney a few times with her, so today was extra special! She was a little shy but very smiley. I had no clue what kind of reaction to expect! I'm just so glad she wasn't scared because we've been looking forward to this for weeks now!

We met up with our friends and their adorable son Sawyer. Oh, how I love that kid!
We did A LOT for only being in the park for about four hours. Ella had her first Enchanted Tiki Room, It's a Small World, Peter Pan, and Hundred Acre Wood experience! It was a day of firsts, she seemed to have a great day. Of course we didn't come home empty handed. Now she has her very own "Oh-Fah"!
I hope it was a great weekend for you all too!
Now back to our Dexter marathon!
(Obviously we aren't football fans over here.)
